Ming Fang Ph.D.
Ming Fang is a professor at the East China University of Science and Technology.
Dr. Ming Fang is a fellow of the Institute of Chemical Engineers, Chartered Engineer, professional member of Food Institute of Technologist, and senior member of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers. He obtained his B.S. degree in China, and master degree and Ph.D. degree at Bath University, UK. He then served as post-doctor research fellow, senior research fellow, senior consultant, director of research and development, visiting and chair professor, guest instructor, and director of R&D at Bath University, East China University of Science and Technology, Michigan State University, and international food company in UK, China and USA. He is particularly interested in food nutrition, international food law and regulation including the food regulations and standards in China.
David Heber, M.D., Ph.D., F.A.C.P., F.A.C.N.

Director of the UCLA Center for Human Nutrition at the University of California, Los Angeles.
After graduating from UCLA Magna Cum Laude in Chemistry in 1969 and from Harvard Medical School in 1973, he completed his internship at Beth Israel Hospital and his residency and fellowship training at Harbor General Hospital in Torrance, California. He completed his Ph.D. in Physiology at UCLA in 1978. Dr. Heber has been on the faculty of the UCLA School of Medicine since 1978 and is currently Professor of Medicine and Public Health and the founding Chief of the Division of Clinical Nutrition in the Department of Medicine and the Founding Director of the UCLA Center for Human Nutrition at UCLA.
Dr. Heber is board certified in Internal Medicine and Endocrinology and Metabolism by the American Board of Internal Medicine and in Clinical Nutrition by the American Board of Nutrition. He directs the NCI-funded Clinical Nutrition Research Unit and the NIH Nutrition and Obesity Training Grants at UCLA. Dr. Heber is a Director of the American Board of Nutrition and past chair of the Education Committee of the American Society of Clinical Nutrition. He was recently elected Chair of the Medical Nutrition Council of the American Society for Nutrition. He has written over 150 peer-reviewed scientific articles and over 50 book chapters, and two professional texts. He has also written four books for the public including “What Color is Your Diet?” and the “L.A. Shape Diet.”
His main research interests are obesity treatment and nutrition for cancer prevention and treatment.
Carl L. Keen, Ph.D.

Professor of Nutrition and Internal Medicine at the University of California, Davis.
He was the Chairman of the Department of Nutrition from 1993 to 2006 and has served on numerous government boards. He has been a member of California’s Scientific Advisory Board for the Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment since 1993. He has been a member of EPA Environmental Health Grant Review Panels (1990-1999), USDA Human Nutrient Requirements Study (1987-92), and several NIH panels (Nutrition Study Section 1997- 02; ALTOX Study Section 2002-2004; XNDA Study Section 2004-2007). He is past president of the California Nutrition Council (1998). He is a member of the American Society for Nutritional Sciences (ASNS), the American Society of Clinical Nutrition (ASCN), the Teratology Society, the Society for Experimental Biology and Medicine (SEBM), and the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS).
He served on numerous editorial boards including Magnesium Research and Journal of Nutritional Immunology. Carl Keen has been honored with numerous prestigious awards including the American Institute of Nutrition Graduate Student Research Award and the American Institute of Nutrition Research Award (Borden Award, 1995).
Dr. Keen's research group has four main areas of focus: influence of diet on embryonic and fetal development, the study of gene-nutrient interactions, the study of how diet influences oxidant defense systems and cellular oxidative damage, and the effects of diet on the development and progression of vascular disease.
Zhaoping Li, M.D., Ph.D.

Professor of Medicine at the UCLA School of Medicine
Dr. Zhaoping Li received her medical training and doctorate in Physiology from Beijing University, China. She is a board certified Internal Medicine Physician and a board certified Nutrition Physician Specialist from the American College of Nutrition. A member of numerous professional organizations including the American Society of Nutrition, the Obesity Society and American College of Nutrition Society, Dr. Li joint the faculty of UCLA in 1997. Currently she is a Professor of Medicine, teaches at UCLA School of Medicine, practices at Ronald Regan Hospital and directs the Clinical Research Unit at the UCLA Center for Human Nutrition, overseeing the research coordinator, clinical dietitians and clinical fellows.
Dr. Li is the recipient of two grants from the NIH and two from the Veteran’s Administration. She has been Principal Investigator for over 30 investigator-initiated and industry- sponsored clinical trials in the fields of nutrition, obesity and botanical research. She has published over 50 papers in peer reviewed journals such as JAMA, Annals of Internal Medicine, American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, Journal of American Dietetic Association, Journal of Biological Chemistry etc. Her 2004 paper “Meta-analysis: pharmacologic treatment of obesity” has become the position paper for obesity pharmacotherapy.
Anoop Misra M.D.

Director of Department of Diabetes & Metabolic Diseases Fortis Hospitals, New Delhi.
He joined Fortis after 10 distinguished years as Professor of Internal Medicine, Head, Diabetes and Metabolism Research Group, and Incharge, Clinical Pharmacology Unit at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi. Dr Misra has done under graduation and post graduation from AIIMS, New Delhi. He has worked in the best hospitals internationally; as a faculty member of the Department of Endocrinology at the Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, Texas, USA. He was also the World Health Organization fellow at Royal Free Hospital, UK (2000) and University of Texas (1996). Presently, he is also adjunct faculty at Indian Institute of Advanced Research, Gandhinagar, Gujarat.
Dr. Misra is an internationally acclaimed researcher and scientist. He has been a member of a number of national and international policy and decision-making bodies including WHO, ICMR Expert Groups for Childhood Obesity , National Control Programs for Diabetes and Cardiovascular Disease, India, National Pharmacovigilance Committee and Indian Pharmacopoeia. He is Chief Scientific Advisor, Diabetes Foundation (India), and core committee member of Diabetes India.
Dr. Misra has published more than 200 scientific papers in international journals. He has received several prestigious orations and awards including India and abroad: S.N. Tripathy Memorial Oration, Prof. Austin E. Doyle Oration, Dr K.L. Wig Oration, and Sam G. Moses Oration. He has been awarded the highest award for medicine in India, the Dr BC Roy Award (2006) and the prestigious National Honor, Padma Shri (2007).
He has several important new scientific findings to his credit including new definitions of obesity, abdominal obesity and syndrome X in Asian Indians. He is on the editorial boards of five international journals on diabetes and metabolic disorders.
James E. Painter, Ph.D., R.D.

Professor and chair of School of Family and Consumer Sciences at Eastern Illinois University.
He received a Bachelor of Science from Southern Illinois University, Master's degree from Oklahoma State University, and a Ph.D. from the University of Illinois in Nutrition.
Jim has been a Registered Dietitian since 1980. From 1982 - 1991 he worked for Marriott Corporation as a food service director and chief clinical dietitian. Jim is a member of the American Dietetic Association and the Society for Nutrition Education.
From 1991 – 2003 he taught Nutrition and Hospitality Management at the University of Illinois. Presently he is the Chair of the School of Family and Consumer Science at Eastern Illinois University.
Jim has been the recipient of numerous grants that have focused on Nutrition Education. He has more than 100 peer reviewed publications and presentations. His current studies focus on obesity and what causes people to eat the way they do.
Joan Sabaté, MD., Ph.D.

Professor and Chair of the Department of Nutrition at Loma Linda University’s School of Public Health, and Professor in the Department of Epidemiology.
From Spain, Dr. Sabaté is a board certified physician in internal medicine who, in 1989, obtained the degree of Doctor of Public Health in nutrition from Loma Linda University. From 1988 to 1990 he was an American Heart Association Research Fellow with the Loma Linda University School of Medicine. In 1997 he became the Chair of the Nutrition Department.
As a researcher, Dr. Sabaté has performed a number of studies related to his primary interest in nutrition. He has served as a co-investigator of the Adventist Health Study, a cohort study of nearly 60,000 Seventh-day Adventists and the relationships between their diets and various diseases. This study, begun in 1974, has received international attention for a number of findings, including the consumption of nuts and a reduced risk of heart attack. He is currently co-investigator of the Adventist Health Study – 2 a cohort study expected to enroll 100,000 Seventh Day Adventists.
Dr. Sabaté is frequently asked to speak at scientific symposia as well as health and nutrition conferences throughout the United States, Europe and Asia. He has been published in many scientific journals both as principal and co-author and is the editor of the book Vegetarian Nutrition published in 2001.
